The Credit Union Cherry Blossom is Washington, DC’s oldest major road race and has been the region’s most popular springtime running event since 1973. It takes place the first weekend in April, on a scenic course in the shadows of the Nation’s most famous monuments, near the National Mall during the world renowned National Cherry Blossom Festival.

All American Backdrop

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run offers sponsors the opportunity to reach a key group of affluent, well-educated decision makers in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The run starts and finishes on the Washington Monument Grounds, providing an “All-American” backdrop for event sponsors.

Demographics

Participants are affluent, over 57% make over $100,000 a year compared to the national average of 24%. They are well-educated, and health conscious. Nearly three quarters of the participants travel to the race with family and friends - the average group size is 2.85

Race Activities and Sponsor Exposure

Kickoff

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run season will begin with our Kickoff, held as a precursor to the opening of the lottery. The event will feature VIPs and the running public, the unveiling of the race t-shirt, and an opportunity for runners to receive guaranteed entries, participate in contests, engage with other runners, and make donations to Children’s Miracle Network.

Lottery & Virtual Training Programs

The highly-anticipated lottery opens in December, in which almost 30,000 runners apply for 20,000 positions for the 10 Mile Run. Over 7,000 runners apply for 5,000 positions for the 5K Run. All participants are enrolled in Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced on line training programs.

The Health and Fitness Expo

Race weekend begins on Friday with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo at Washington, DC’s historic National Building Museum. The Health & Fitness Expo includes packet pick-up, vendor sales, and running-related educational clinics. Over 40,000 runners, friends and families attend.

The Race, Teams, and Capitol Hill

The 5K Run takes place on Saturday on Freedom Plaza. The Ten Mile Run takes place on Sunday on the Washington Monument Grounds. The Ten Mile includes many corporate and government teams along with over 900 Capitol Hill staffers on 50 teams in a special “Capitol Hill Competition.” Nearly 200 Members of Congress serve as Honorary Race Chairs of the event.

Social Runner Program

Hundreds apply to be our Social Runners for the year. Those selected utilize Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to report race activities, including sponsor participation and other runners’ perceptions.
